a hunting we will go a hunting we will go

So for Turkey hunting season this year we all packed up and headed to Saginaw together for a full week. The weather was incredible with some days in the 90's. We played outside for most of the time but also went inside to do some crafts and snuggle watching movies. Kurt and I were gifted with a full day to ourself and we spent a fun day shopping and even watched a movie together at a theatre (i know wow at a theatre!).
Mema treated is all to a day at the zoo where we had train rides and carousel rides to our hearts content. As you can see in the pictures the best part for Cahill were her cousins especially Brooklyn.

We are ready for Summertime!

Icky, Ewwy, Gremy, Grimy Gopher guts..

This spring I decided to attempt putting in a lasagna garden with compost, peat moss and other different layers. But the part I did not anticipate was how to dig up some serious sod. Anyway so i spent a lot of time digging up my precious garden. The girls had a blast trying to help and running through the dirt pretending like it was a ship and a river. But the highlight of the entire event was the worms. Once I started really getting down into the soil I began to find oohey gooey worms. So i decided to hand them off to my girls to play with as I continued to garden. They went nuts playing with these friends. Ashy literally played with one worm for 40 minutes. Cahill cried when I told her she could not sleep with hers. We had to go out and feed them after dinner and say good night.

Crafts and Experiments

One of the things that Cahill and I have really enjoyed this year are crafts and experiments. Some we have done for our schooling and some for just fun and to celebrate a season or holiday. For our rock unit we picked rocks out and painted and then we made a volcano. I wish I had recorded their reactions as it was priceless as the lava came out of the rock. super cool! I love learning this way oh wait I mean teaching this way!!

Critters

So this is our first spring in the new house and the first time I have ever lived in a house where I actually am able to experience the wildlife. Cahill and I have had a blast watching hummingbirds drink from our feeder, rabbits chasing each other and bouncing around and the deer who love our backyard. So one morning i woke up and looked out our back deck and this is what i found staring and me and my cup of coffee.

Easter Fun

Okay clearly I am way behind as I am posting Easter pictures in May but I guess it is better then posting in July.  In my defense it was a crazy spring with 10 days of babies with the flu quickly followed by 5 to 6 weeks of the chicken pox. I was a little busy and did not take any pictures of my children for a couple months. But the good news is that I do have a lot of pictures in the queue and will work on updating my posts and taking more pictures to capture my children's sweet smiles..Here we Go!

I think Kurt was more excited then the girls to color eggs this year. We had fun with the colors and the mess and even trying to get the girls to eat them after they were cold. ha ha..The girls and I even decorated some paper eggs and hung them in our windows for decorations.(yes that is Ashlynn eating the ribbon for her egg, welcome to my world) We also spent more time learning about what Easter is truly about and why it is important even on a personal level. It was exciting to watch Cahill slowly begin to understand everything at a heart level. We also celebrated Easter in the snow with a easter egg hunt followed by a basket hunt inside. Kurt was even surprised to find out he had his own basket this year even though apparently i need to get even better at hiding his.

Bumble Bars

So I come to you with a new favorite recipe in our household. These bars pack a incredible punch of nutrients and energy. A couple months ago we learned that Cahill has incredible low fatty acids and Kurt has low phosphorus levels. One of the solutions to these issues are seeds, seeds and more seeds. So upon recommendations I started looking for the perfect recipe for bumble bars. Depending on how you chose to make them they will provide energy, high fatty acids, omega- threes, iron, help with seasonal allergies and best of all cure a sweet tooth! Okay no more rambling here is the recipe

1 cup of sesame seeds
1/4 cup of flaxseed, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, slivered almonds (if u want)
1/2 cup of sunflower seeds
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp of real vanilla
1/4 cup of cocoa powder (optional)
1/2 cup of honey (may have to add more to get perfect texture) try to use local raw honey! (within 50 miles)

** i have also added sunflower butter and or almond flour

I grind up all my seeds to a dust..(can use a nutribullet or coffee grinder or not grind seeds at all)
add cinn, vanilla, cocoa powder, almond flour and sunflower butter in a bowl then add honey and mix..

take a 8x8 or a 9x11 pan and spread across the bottom and put into fridge for 20 minutes

after fridge take out and cut into bars or eat the whole pan

trust me you will love this recipe even if you do not like seeds!! (let me know what u think!)
